Family Photo Session at Salt Creek Beach

Salt Creek Beach has to be one of my favorite places to do family photo sessions. On a day where they tide is low, there is room to run and play, the creek, the ocean, the tide pools, the black rock and the gorgeous sea stack for a backdrop. All of those features make it so easy to be playful and present, which is exactly what we’re shooting for!

This gorgeous family was on a multi state road trip when they contacted me for photos. We were able to do a quick wardrobe consult and get them photo ready, mostly with what they already had! I was so impressed by how affectionate and kind they all were (mid road trip, fellow moms will understand why this was especially impressive) and it was SO fun to do their photos.

One of my favorite things is when a parent quietly lets me know that a couple of siblings have a special relationship and ask that I try to capture it during the course of the session. That was the case here. No need to guess whether or not they are best friends. Their “pose” went from sedate to…well…this in about 5 seconds flat. (Insert a laughing emoji here at least in your mind) This kind of thing is my FAVORITE and it also ended up being one of the mom’s favorite photos from the whole session. Showing real personality in unexpected moments truly creates a treasure the family will love to look back on for the rest of their lives.

I feel like this family could teach a masterclass on doing a family photo session. Everyone stayed so relaxed and patient for the whole shoot. Every session might include it’s moments where dad gets sand in his eyes, or your toddler wants to climb to the front of EVERY photo (no these are not random examples ha!) but everyone stayed all smiles and meant it, and that is truly the secret to an amazing session. Oh…receipts. This little guy was the OPPOSITE of camera shy and I LOVED it.

SO many sweet and snuggly moments! If this was my family, this one would go straight on the wall!

This one gets me right in the feels too. We captured the moment of joy in this sweet little guy’s eyes when he picked mom a flower. You’ll notice it in her hair for most of the rest of the session! OH MY HEART!
